Ben Avison releases his first new song in almost 5 years since his highly acclaimed debut solo album, Good Day Mr Magpie. Released in time for Valentines Day, Lovers’ Leap weighs up the positive side of the power of love against its equally destructive effects.
Lovers' Leap is about attraction and self-destruction; about forces beyond our control; about how love chooses us and sets us free. It’s also the name of a cliff in the Derbyshire Dales where a lovesick woman attempted suicide, was saved by her billowing skirt and became reunited with her lover.
The track is accompanied by a VIDEO by Fat Toad Films, filmed in Super8 just before sunrise on the equinox.
The song was produced with Robin Christensen-Marriott, who also plays bass on the recordings together with Tobias Sturmer on drums and vocalist Steph Pirrie. The new track, the first from a second solo album due for release at the end of 2018, was written on a narrowboat in Oxford where Ben lived for five years with his lovely girlfriend Rose and a wise rabbit called Bob.
Ben intends to release a single every 2 months in 2018 leading up to the album’s release at the end of the year, with both February and April’s releases being particularly relevant to events in those months. Watch this space for news on the April release.
